Nauvoo

Steven had to go out of town last weekend for work (again). He decided it would be fun if we took the kids out of school for Monday and Tuesday and the whole family just tagged along. Luckily for us, he was going to western Illinois, about 30 minutes from Nauvoo. Since our great friends, the Smith's, live there, we stayed with them and the kids and I were able to just play (and cook) for three days! It was great!

Addie {LOVES} to cook. Luckily for her, Jennifer is an amazing cook with a lot of patience for small helpers. This time, when we got there, Jennifer had gotten all the things needed to make a super cool hamburger cake. The kids were really excited about it!!

Got to smell it to see if it's turning out right!

Really loving that beater!

Addie was a bit nervous about using the beater. I think she's too used to our Kitchen-Aide. Landon was MORE than happy to make that his job!

Grant couldn't lick a beater, because there are only two, and because he's allergic to eggs, so he got a cookie Brownie (that we made the day before!).

I really don't know how Jennifer can be so patient with the kids while cooking. Addie is frosting the bottom bun of the hamburger.

Now Landon is frosting the hamburger patty.

Here it is with the bottom bun, lettuce, tomato, and burger.

Add the cheese!

And voila! We couldn't resist taking a picture of the cake out by the grill! The top bun ended up being a bit small, but over all we were all super excited with how well it turned out (especially considering we had 3 little helpers)!

Rice Crispies as the sesame seeds on the bun! Too cute!
The only down side to our trip was that we took Steven's work truck. We were all crammed in there for 5 hours. It was a bit too close for comfort. Especially when we have a baby Ella, who was kind of fussy but not easy to reach, a 7 year old Landon, whose favorite thing is to talk (non-stop! I'm not kidding!) and a curious Addie who likes to touch EVERY thing she can get her hands on! This was about an hour from home on our way back and Landon FINALLY fell asleep!
Ella (can't see her, but on the left is the back of her car seat), Grant, and Landon.

Me, Addie, and Steven. Addie and Landon took turns riding in the front.
We were glad to be able to get away and we always love visiting with the Smith's! Next time, we're taking the van though!!!

That cake is so cute! I am assuming you used fondant for the cheese. At least I hope you did!
